paint questions

Hey Hotrodders need some help. My son and I are attempting to paint our project 1985 chevy short bed. One question I have is before we start to prime the truck should we use wax and grease remover then wipe down with tac rag or skip w and g remover and use surface wash and then wipe off with tac rag? I also read to wash the whole truck with dawn soap and rinse off before painting. Any info would be great. Thanx

Definetly wash everything with a dish soap first.
Then start your sanding

Wash truck prior to sanding with dawn or any dish soap as it has grease removers in it, never any that contain a wax in it [turtle wax]
Always use a good wax and grease remover prior to painting, never just dish soap as this will leave a film, Ppg dx 330 works great, depending on your area you may need a waterborne cleaner as Ppg dx 394 be sure to wipe with a clean wet cloth after using 394 also as it may leave a film.

Wash with dawn dish rinse well dry completly blow out every little body line and along every littl nook and crany, i prefer to wait a day to let any water dry up, me personaly if im getting ready to spray right after cleaning, i tack the whole surface well with a clean tack cloth, open your second tack rag unfold and put in a clean area i hang with a clothes pin. i wipe with plenty of wax and grease remover spray on with a spary bottle or pore and wipe, use plenty get it soaked leave for about 10 sec. during this time check your body work itll look as if you have clear on it easy to spot inperfections. then wipe down qwickly with a dry towel i do what ever is going to get sprayed, i then do a second application but i spray it on the towel and wipe it down and wipe it off no waiting. i then take and use the new tack rag with your paint gun with no paint use just the air pressure to litely blow over the car as you tack off the car or part. this seems to keep the dust from the small body lines from blowing out as you paint if you missed it. tack litely then let sit for like ten mins or longer. ten mins gives you enough time to get your paint mixed and let it sit for a min and stir it several times for a good mix strain, and go nuts spraying. this is how i do it because this is the way i learned and i dont argue with any one wanting or stating differently. good luck
