Paint Questions
Hello, I've been looking over the forums for some time and have a few questions....
1) Are there any good books on car painting that are popular around here? Preferably with spraying patterns/techniques... A good handbook would really come in handy for avoiding typical noob mistakes!
I am going to buy a friends 87' Trans Am and it needs paint and needs some bondo and tlc, I have been contemplating getting into painting for quite some time (possibly professionally eventually), and I think this would be the perfect opportunity to learn. I obviously plan to practice on old fenders and such, but I like to plan ahead. The car is a dark red with silver running boards which brings me to my next question
2) Out of HOK's Black Sparkle Pearl and either of the Maroon Metallics which would be easier to get satisfactory? Do pearls have ghosting issues like metallics do?
These are the colors I think I'd be interested in for the car for now until I can pick up the paint chip thingies...
Also, 3) For the Black Pearl it recommends a base black (?coats?) with 3 coats of the pearl then clear. How much base would I need to cover the car, engine bay, jams?
Not so clear on what type of reducer I'll need, but I'm assuming 1 gallon of primer, base, pearl, and clear should be more than enough?
Thanks, your help is much appreciated!
