paint shop in Bakersfield/Lamont, CA

Hi guys,

I noticed there are quite a few hotrodders from this area (Bksd, Lamont). Can you recommend me a decent paint shop/painter where I can take my 69 Elky?

Thanks,
Denis

There are a slew of them here but I think Manuel's, 131 E 19th St., (661) 327-4941, does very good work. I have taken my last few jobs there and have been very pleased with their product.

Thanks, Willys. I will give him a call, hopefully he can come over to my house and give me a quote. The car has no engine nor transmission.

Can I ask you what kind of jobs he did for you? And how much he charged?

Regards!
Denis

Both jobs were insurance jobs so I didn't pay attention. One was replacing and painting to match the rear bumper on my PT cruiser after someone rear ended me at a stop sign. The most impressive job was repairing and paint matching the passenger rear quarter panel on my wife's '56 Bel Air hard top. It was a 100 point concourse winner the year before we bought it and we kept it in that condition. Someone rear-ended it and annihilated the quarter panel. Manuel totally restored it and the paint match was perfect. $1500 kind of sticks in my mind on that one and that was just labor - no parts.

Great, thanks! I just called the office - unfortunately they don't visit the customers' home and don't give quotes. I will have to bring the vehicle on the trailer to them. The lady on the phone mentioned the prices of 2,500 and up.

Sounds about right for a quality job. Have you checked paint prices lately? Colors are going for way over $100/gallon and clear for ~$200/gallon!! Also, a quality paint job = good preparation = lots of hand labor = $$$.

Yes, I've been to a paint shop looking for something to paint my interior. That price I mentioned is just a paint job. Preparation is extra :-)
