Hello people...
Once we get all the suspension done on my bro's 69 C10, he want's to primer it black since the orginal paint is looking pretty bad. He doesn't have too much money, so getting it actually painted to the way he wants it is out of the question. I convinced him to just paint it a flat black instead of a primer since it may be a couple of years before it sees an actual paint job. Is this ok?
Also, would just scuffing the paint and spraying it be ok? Or would that cause headaches later on down the road?
He mainly just wants it one color and to look like a working process. So any suggestion are welcome. Thanks in advance!

You could buy an epoxy sealer like DP90 and add some black pigment to it. Or you could just buy some cheap black paint and slap it on. Since you will be going after the body later on anyway it shouldn't be a problem to strip it off with a DA sander.

Thanks 302. I don't know what the actual paint is on there now (it's stock from 1969 if that matters), but would some paint cause a chemical reaction and make it peel, or wrinkle up?

Also, can I throw bondo over paint? I don't know if I'm going to go that far, but there are a couple of little dings that I'd like to smooth out. Or should just not because it would make it hard on the body guy that's going to do the work later?

Your welcome. It's a no-no to put Bondo over paint, it will eventually let go. When you do get around to painting it for good, I would do the body work at that point. Your best bet IMO is when you get to the point you are ready to fix it for good, is to strip it down to bare metal. Once it is stripped to bare metal do all your body work, primer, block sand, primer, block sand till all imperfections are covered then paint.
