the other day i was watching that show "Overhauling" and they were doing a '70 mustang, after they painted it and buffed it, they made the side stripes on satin black, just like th Boss 302.
my question is, aren't you suppose to sand where you are going to paint it, and after it is done wouldn't the edges feel like high spots. i hope you understand what i mean, if you have any questions let me know

Saw the same show. I believe they scuffed the surface where they sprayed the flat black and yes you will feel a slight lip, just like you did on the original flat black sections.

A typical base coat/clear coat system requires you to recoat with more base within a certain time period, sometimes as much as 6 to 8 hours. After all the base color is applied the stripes are layed out with 3M fine line tape. All the rest of the car is masked off with paper and the color stripes are painted on. The clear has to also be applied within a certain time window. All the masking paper and tape is removed, the car is tack ragged. Any imperfections are repaired at this point. Then multiple coats of clear are then layed on. After a sufficient drying period the clear is color sanded and buffed. If it is done correctly you cannot feel the lines between color change.

That's the way its normally done but not the way they did it on the show. On the show the flat black striping was added after the base clear was buffed and polished.
