painting dash in or out of car

I am in the process of getting all the lights and other electrics finished and will be installing wire harness. is it better to wire the dash instruments in the car and then paint the dash or take out dash and paint then wire? sc

You can do a much better job on the paint if you do it out of the car and before you install anything into it.

HOK used to make a candy-style paint the was supposed to be easier than a true candy.

Ive also seen some guys use a single stage paint, and dilute it with a clear, each coat diluting it 25% more than the last, following with a coat of straight clear.
Example:
Coat 1 100% single stage
Coat 2 75% SS and 25% compatible clear
Coat 3 50/50%
Coat 4 25/75%
Coat 5 100% CC

Note:
I've never done this nor do I have any idea how durable it is.
Seems like a LOT of film build, but a lot of custom paint jobs can have lots of layers.

Candy is NOT easy to paint; if you dont have a lot of experience, you might be better off with finding a Modern OEM-style finish that meets your needs
