Painting engine block?

I have a qt of dupont chroma base & a qt of chroma clear.The machinist sprayed the engine with self etch primer to keep it from rusting.Can i use the dupont b/c system over this primer? THANKS MIKE

I'd be surprised if it stood up to the heat. I'd go get some heat resistant paint, about every parts store carrys it.

using BC/CC systems work very well on engine blocks, blocks don't get hot enough to scorch paint or cause it to flake. most times the blocks are not prepped right and causes the paint to flake from contaminates baking out from under it, so many people give it a bad rep ( even heat paint ). it won't stand the heat of headders or exhaust manifolds tho.

I sprayed mine a couple of months ago with single stage (house brand from a local shop) and it has held up very well.

BC/CC is one of the most durable paints there is for an engine block, far superior to what comes from ANY rattle can.

I always use BC/CC and never had a problem.I prefer the omni clear,cheaper and I believes holds up much better.I don't use omni on the exterior of a car though.
