How's it going guys. Need some help here. I have a fender and a hood from the junk yard.color green.they are in good condition. These. Are replacement parts the car they need to go on is gold. ..now can I sand it with600 .and paint the gold right over the green.or do I have to primer it first then shoot the gold. ...thanks
Depending on the paint you using - coverage may be an issue. Usually gold covers good. You can sand with 600 and paint, but as long as you dont sand through the clear and there are no areas being repaired. Another option is to sand with 400, seal it, then paint - wet on wet. But again, as long as you dont have sand throughs.
you might get a different tone if you don't prime it or seal it, even if it's a good match. I would sand it with 500-600 just cause it's a gold metallic. Although not as bad as silver, it's one of those colors where it's finicky to the scratch. and you might faintly see the outline of your scratch in reflections once the sealer/ primer/paint settles in and cures. Doubt it, but it's just good insurance.
I also tested a section without primer it also looked good it took the same amount of coats total 3 coats of base on both the primer section and non primer
I also tried a spot without primer and it Also came out good.it took the same amount of coats
