Painting Fender - How much paint needed?

I'm painting a front fender on a 1996 Trans Am with the original color, how much paint is required (quarts?), and is it advisable to paint the fender on or off the car (it's an after market fender)?

The most you would ever need is a quart of base to paint a fender. If I were doing a fender I'd only get a pint. You don't have any room for error though or wasted paint.

It all depends on the color and undercoat color, if the coverage is good. With a good quality basecoat and the appropriate undercolor you should achieve full coverage at 2-3 coats so a pint would be plenty with some to spare. If you're using a paint that doesn't cover well taking 5-6 coats you may need more than a pint of color. If the car is black a half pint would get the job done. What color is the car? What kind of paint are you buying? Do you need enough to blend into the door? and hood? Bob

I think a pint would suit you just fine. Reduced you should get 3 fairly heavy coats easily.
