Painting my 85 SWB chevy, need help with budget paint and clearcoat. Duplicolor?

Hey All,

Finally decided to paint my 85 SWB chevy silverado this winter. Actually I will be helping more than painting . Well.. now I'm set with the task of selecting my paint and clear coat. My uncle works at O'reilly and advised that I could get his discount on duplicolor paint and clear. I've never heard of duplicolor when it comes to painting autos... but of course have used their aerosol line of paints. Would I be ok selecting duplicolor as my paint... and maybe finding a better brand for my clear? Where sites could I find a good deal on paint and clear coats? I'm going with the original paint.. which for the chevy trucks of 81-87 it's a two tone, and this selection is Indian Bronze metallic and Mahogany Custom. So, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd step up to Kirker single stage urethane. It is not a lot of money and imho it is a better product than lacquer (duplicolor).

I have never used Dupli-Color, but here is a site about how to use it. [URL=http://***************/[/URL] I would check before using a different clear. I think Dupli Color may be a lacquer type of paint which may cause problems with other clears. Not sure, but I would check. O'Reilly's also has a lower line of DuPont called Nason. You may ask about that to.

Check the price you can get on omni [mtk] I've been using some of it and for a single stage urethane it's not that bad.Just a little on the thin side so put it on in thin coats and watch for runs. I use almost no reducer in it maybe 10%
