Painting process question

Hi,
I want to have my corvette painted, & maybe 3 weeks ago I was at a friends home & he had trucks on the tv & the guy was painting something,(I only caught parts of the show) & I heard him say, "spray the color, let it set-up then use (I'm guessing here) 80% color & 20% clear", let it set-up, & so on decreasing the color content & increasing the clear until? is this a good thing to do?
Thank you for any help with this,
Rich

Paint

If that was the one with the 4dr Chevy, He was showing how to blend in the new paint to the old. If you watch it all, you will understand. For full paint job follow mfg. speks.
