Painting of SPI Viper Blue

I am getting very close to my paint purchase, my choices(SPI) are Viper Red, Black or Viper Blue. My questions areI will be painting in pieces)
1) Is the Viper Blue..... metallic? Hard to tell for me from my chip.
2) If you have used this color, did you paint in pieces? maybe a photo you could post?
3) Painting the Viper Blue, will it present the same problems has other metallics in matching etc.etc?
4) I am painting a 52 chevy truck, top bottom, inside/outside,under-hood, all over except the frame/engine and rear-end with the color I finally decide on from SPI. How much should I purchase of the color? I am leaning toward the 2 gallons to be on the safe side, but that seems like an awful lot?

The outside of the body should be painted at one time.
With the pearl and the metallics in the viper blue you can change 2-3 shades with air pressure or reducer % changes.
2 gallons would be enough with some extra left over.

barry, is there a rule of thumb on how to make it lighter or darker. say higher press = ligher, lower = darker or higher temp reducer makes darker etc.

Viper Blue proper color is the Sikkens that supplied paint for the Viper when first made.
If you check PPG, Dupont, Basf they are all a shade different.
I matched to PPG because most street rods were painted with that brand
and for touch-up I wanted it blend-able.

May not have been an issue as five pounds more air pressure will lighten it
1/2 a shade and 10% more reducer will add another 1/2 shade.
That is about all the exactness I can give you.

Nice part is a little adjustment and you can be allover the spectrum!

The first car I painted with this years ago when it first come out was the head of prisons in another state, a 69 Cougar Convert, that he had the prisoners restore for him at one of the prisons that had a body shop.
Last two coats I over reduced 50% to make the metallic really stand out as that was what he wanted.

No I was not a guest of the state.

I painted a 52 Chevy PU Viper Red with 3 coats and I will be using almost 3 gallons. When you start painting cab, hood, doors, fenders, tailgate, bed sides in and out there is a lot to paint.
