Painting Vinyl
I have came to the conclusion I need to paint the door panels in my Gran Sport as the are faded pretty bad. I have painted vinyl interior pieces over the years and always simply washed them with warm soap and water and then wiped them with a lacquer thinner soaked rag and sprayed the paint on, seemed to work damn good. But are there any other ways I should be doing it?

On the product data sheet for the SEM paint I am using they say to use products of theirs like Vinyl Prep, and I am going to see if I can get some today but I doubt they have it in stock. Anyway, any thoughts on this?

Wash it down as usual,
Use the Sem Vinyl prep and spray.
The prep softens and opens up the old stuff for a chemical bond.

Yeah I called the paint store and they have some of the prep I am going to do as I say, "FOLLOW THE TECH SHEET!" :D

I have found the SEMS products to be very good Brian. Follow your own advice and I think you will be well pleased if you get a good color match.

It's semi-gloss black so the color isn't too hard. I did a spray out last night on a piece of vinyl and it looks near perfect. I went and picked up a couple of cans of the vinyl prep. I have a auto paint store here in town that is so damn cool, about every custom paint you can think of, cool stuff hanging around (an original barn find Whizzer in the show room) it's nice that they have done pretty well. I was talking to the owner today and he is doing all the right things, good job.

How do you like the floor in the place, it's metal flake! Bummer you can't see the flake in the photo, it sparkles!

da34guy is right. Follow the SEM instructions to the letter, and it will turn out perfect.

The first time I used SEMS I went into Wynn & Graff Supply in Knoxville. I plopped my butt on one of the stools at the front counter and told the man what I needed. When I asked him if it would hold up he advised me they had dyed the stools I was sitting on 3 years ago. I would never have realized they had been dyed. By the way, that was 1992 or there abouts. You know they saw a LOT of use.....

I dyed the entire interior of my Bonneville, headliner and all,, used the Sem stuff,
origionally it was the old lady Gold ,I re painted it with Graphite and black, that was 8 years ago,,( I had the seats recovered )
I've done some touch up over the years, but its a great product

EDIT WOOPS had some trouble loading the pictures,, obviously I hit the same one twice,, just close one eye, it looks a little blue,, but actually its graphite,,

I was happy with the way they came out, especially following the directions to the tee. It makes me feel even better than the times I have used it in the past simply wiping down with lacquer thinner.
