I've had some clear blends last over ten years with no problems. Did some blends on my Uncle's 92 Toyota pickup when it was a year old and to this day the repairs are undetectible-I check it out everytime I see it and shake my head. I've done many spot jobs over the years with no complaints. Granted the best way is to clear the complete panel but for you to say expect the blend to show up within three polishes or the first buffing means you're obviously doing something wrong.

Oh you can do nice blends, you just cant ever buff or polish it. Back in the Lacquer days thinner would soften the paint and make a better blend. But thats what made Lacquer such a poor finish compared to urethane. If you lay a rag with thinner on lacquer it melts.Urethane once cured is none reactive( I use a thinner rag to clean tar off it) So when you blend it it doesn't burn-in it just sits on top.
