patching up trans cooler

i busted my radiator for my trans cooler and i was wondering what was the best way to fix it. its a small tear about 1/2" long and 1/8" wide. can i TIG this thing shut or can i just use some of the welder's putty, OR buy a new one for 163.

ps i did this when i bottomed out going off road. on top of this problem i no longer seem to have Power brakes or power steering. what can cause this. there are no busted lines or blown fuses.

Trans Cooler is no place to skimp if you loose it you will trash the trans I would take it to a trans shop or just bite the bullet and get a new one. As far as the other problems what kind of vehicle is it need more details. Possibly if you blew the cooler you could have sprayed trans fluid on the belts causing them to slip?

Did you get trans fluid on the belt which will allow it to slip on the pump pulley?

Not the trans cooler...

That cooler is for the power steering fluid, which also runs the Hydroboost for the brakes.

I would just get a small tranny cooler and reroute the lines to it instead. Most tranny coolers from the aftermarket will be a bit larger in size, and keep the power steering fluid a bit cooler, in addition to holding a bit more fluid.

Use good hydraulic hose made for the job, not fuel flex line. And I would double-clamp the rubber lines with fuel injection-style clamps as these hold better and make a more positive seal.
