PCV Question

I have a1965 Plymouth belvedere 273 engine. There is about 30,000 miles on the rebuilt motor and compression is good. I removed the PCV valve and found a white milky sludge and a lot of water directly under the valve. The valve rattles when you shake it. The PCV hose is new. I drained the oil into a clear container and did not find any water or other contaminants in the oil.

2 questions:

What does this indicate?

The current PCV valve has threads and a small nut that holds it in place on a small metal cup that fits over a snout on the valve cover. The replacement PCV valve that the parts book calls for, does not have the threads or nut so there is no way to attach it to that metal cup. Anyone know how that is supposed to work?

HotRodMan,

First the old PCV is one that can be cleaned and reused. Take it apart and spray everything with a good carb cleaner and then put it back in.

The milky stuff you are talking about is from condensation. I would say your engine is not coming up to operating temperature. Check your thermostat to be sure it is working and is not stuck in the open position.
