PCV Valve??
I have a 62 comet, which we had the engine overhauled on.
I was told we needed a pcv valve... though from my research the pcv valve wasn't introduced til 63.... So do I need to put in a pcv valve? or is it just breathers? |
The PCV valve was introduced on some engines in 1962, and on all vehicles starting in 1963. All your engine may need is a road draft tube to draw pressurized combustion air from the crankcase. All engines have a certain amount of ring blow-by which pressurizes the crankcase and forces oil vapors out of the breathers. Even too much exhaust back-pressure can cause oil vapors to be forced out of the breathers and can saturate the firewall with oil.

not unless you want one or live in CA. just use some breathers.
Now pcv valve is supposed to help in performance a little by keeping the crank case vented correctly. |

Good luck. |
Here is a good link to PCV Valve Operation, pages 3-5 in particular.
