Malc I hear kind of what you mean in the winter months
{ yes it get cold in Fla}

When A cold front Is approaching I get these wicked Headaches sometimes debilitating until its get close to & starts to rain!

Have to tried IMMETREX? Also over the counter "calcium.magnesium & zinc" vitamins will kick a head ache butt.

Also do you drink enough water/liquids?

BB86 Yes Canadians are very fortunate in that regard & its {from what little I know } seems like a good system, but I wonder if the doctors loose their competitive edge because they cant charge as much as they want.
Like they do here.

Their is 2 different prices ,if you have insurance something will cost $100.

I am 100% disabled from several doctors they said that my Disc problems in my neck & back ,from auto wrecks [others running into me] & work related injuries .
They said one more time & I could most likely in a wheel chair paralyzed from the neck down!

With That the Diabetes ,nerve damage & history of Family heart stroke disease .I still dont get any help from my dear 'Ole Uncle Sam!

My father had a major Heart attack @ 30 years old he's had a few strokes & a embolism AND my brother died @33 from a stroke! Last June, but for 5+ years I 'm not able to even get medical help .

Living off the full end of my credit cards is not fun but I'm looking into selling on Evil bay {if I could stop goofing off here }
and trust me this is the super short story

I have know a few people that the Cancer has triggered other stuff such as Diabetes & Nueropathy & such so they beat cancer to wind up a invalid ...

I worry for you that those infections will take their toll as you get older & the healing process slows even further.

Anyone who has health problems knows about good & bad days ,& I know about them too,

But activity is a key part to feeling better I force myself to do stuff [cant afford to go to a gym {not that I would}]

To get out side & walk around I dont go far Sometimes ,so I can make it back inside if I have a break down.
I don't have a personal tow truck or AAA on call LOL.

HA HA kinda like driving a old junk car lots of duct tape clothes hangers & short trips

As far a the Slurpies why don't you try making your own with splendor or a artificial sweetener ? might be a task to do I really haven't thought about it too much...

Malc, if the migraine probelm is a regular occurence, you might get some benefit from a feverfew product. I've been migraining since I was ~20 years old, and I know how it can F up your life.

I started taking Mygrafew (a feverfew product made by Nature's Way) as a preventative measure several years ago, and it has helped me greatly. Since then, I usually don't have attacks as often, and when I do, they're rarely as bad as they used to be. Mine are often set off by odors such as diesel fumes, perfumes, paper mills, & skunks. I don't seem to be quite as sensitive to those since I started taking it, but they'll still get to me if I don't get away from them pretty quickly. As with your mother, stress withdrawal can also be a trigger. Screws up your day off, for sure.

R, I can definately relate to much of what you have to say!! I am also now on 100% disability...Canada Pension Disability and disability from my disability company at work. Besides the cancer thing and being diabetic, I also have degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, this back problem called ligamentum flavus (main ligament in my spine has thickened and is covered in scar tissue), COPD, just recovered from Iritis, and a few other problems too, but I often forget everything if I just try to pop them off the top of my head I've had 8 major surgeries and have one more scheduled for April 19th, and another 3 months after I've healed from that one. My bod is like my vehicles....wrecks! lol

As far as our medical system goes, I don't think the doctors here lose their competitive edge. I am very fortunate that I have wonderful doctors. I feel like I get the best of care. My GP, Oncologist, Rheumatologist, Internal Medicine dude, Diabetic Specialist and Plastic Surgeon....not for cosmetic reasons, he's putting my ol' bod back together again...are all wonderful. So are my other docs, but right now I can't think of who else I see.

Sounds like there's a lot of medical history in your family. I am the only one in mine (my mom's and dad's sides) that has had cancer or diabetis. I do have brain aneurysms on both sides of my family....my mom died of one when she was 46 and my cousin's little boy died from his when he was 7 (my dad's side).

It's very, very sad and unfair that you get no help! I may be wrong, but it doesn't sound like you get help financially or medically! Here, if a person is considered 100% disabled and don't have a pension or disability coverage they are eligible for something called AISH (Assured Income for Severely Handicapped). I know a few people on it, and they receive around $1300.00/month for a single person, and more if they have children. A g/f of mine is on AISH, and she pays $217.00/month for a two bedroom condo. Her rent includes everything! She's in low income housing. It pees me off sometimes when I go to see her that all those people on AISH or Social Assistance all drive nicer cars than me! Something isn't quite right there, I figure!

I'm very fortunate that I can afford to pay my mortgage, and live a half-decent life financially. I don't have anything fancy, but what I have is mine and is paid for...except my mortgage...4 more years till that's paid off. I don't get any alimony or child support as the *** has taken off and can't be found. He's most likely in the U.S. someplace. (Keep your eye out for a red H&R truck!)

Yes, I do know about good days and bad days. I take advantage of my good days, and take it easy on days that are a bit tougher. I've learned long ago that to push myself only makes things worse. With me, pretty well everything I have is invisible. I look healthy on the outside. I hate it when I feel really crappy and someone comes up and tells me how well I look. I think to myself "If only you knew how I really felt". I'm going to attach a pic, and you'll see I don't look as sickly as I feel. I don't think I do, anyway! lol Who knows....I may be fooling mself! I just turned 44 this month, but some days I feel 88.

Like you, I try to remain as active as possible. I'm involved in a lot of volunteer work with our regional mental health board, the school I once worked at, The Canadian Mental Health Association, our local soccer club and minor hockey, did the Girl Guide Leader thing when my daughter was younger, and quite a few other things. A few friends of mine and I have registered to do a 60 km walk from Aug 11 to 13. What we are taking part in is called "A Weekend to End Breast Cancer". I've already started my training, and will be assigned a coach.

As far as my Slurpees go, I buy the Crystal Light ones as often as I can. They contain no sugar. Your idea of making my own is a good one!

I've blabbed long enough! lol Late at night (3:06 a.m.) when I can't sleep I tend to be a little long winded! lol Sorry about the length of this! It's starting to look like we need to start our own health site!

Do the headaches make you vomit? In any case, and especialliy if you're puking, get a CAT scan or some kind of check. My mothers side of the family is prone to migrane headaches, and two of her siblings have died due to burst anurisms in their brains. If they are regular and consistant, this would be a good idea.
