i have just sprayed a hood pearl white with a ss acr/urethne paint. my question would be, since there is orange peel prevalent can i wetsand the ss pearl flat before laying on the clearcoat. On the other hand, do I spray the color again and hope to eleminate the peel . or can I spray over the orange peel all together and wetsand the clearcoat with same results. What to do? i feel the correct way would be to use a different gun, wetsand and shoot the color again first then clear. Anyone ever come across this prob?

I would think pearl is like metallic. Those particles lay out in a very specific way to give the pearl effect. When you sand them you destroy that. I would sand it flat then shoot another coat of base over it before I layed down some more clear.

You should have cleared it in window.Otherwise,you'll end up with more pearl than you want by reshooting it.
IMO, I would just scuff the SS with a gray pad,use a waterbourn cleaner and clear it using a slow catalyst.
The peel won't be and issue with the base and you can color sand the clear and either buff it or flow coat it with more clear.

Im assuming ss means single stage? why would clear it? if you want clear you should have gone w/base,clear. single stage means 1 stage no clear. its usually a acrylic enamel. however you can wet sand w/1500 and buff without worrying about your metallic pearl

Thats the "problem" with using single stage "custom" colors like metallics & such.
NO color sanding without shooting more to achieve the desired finish.
You go cutting and buffing them and you end up with less than desired results. Hence,the clear on top,That you can cut and buff with no issue.
If the peel is the equivelant of OEM finish,just buff it and be happy.If the peel is really pitted then you got a crappy finish and spraying more of an "effect" style paint will give you more than you want most times.
Custom painting with SS is a waste of time IMO due to this and other issues.
You need to bc/cc in the event of problems and the repairing of said issues.
Solid colors are fine and the way to go because you can color sand them but, specality jobs are best left to bc/cc.

i went ahead and sanded with 1500 then2000 grit and buffed it out it turned out pretty good but the clear didnt buff out as good as in the past. maybe the humidity didnt help in oklahoma it gets pretty humid it was about 75% when i shot it I should have waited perhaps I only buffed it with compound so far and my buffer is small so i think it needs rebuffed I will give it a week.
