Well, I DO know those little Ramblers well, have a couple parts cars still. But this is a rather radical mod, and nowhere I've been -- all new territory! I'm just giving an opinion like everyone else in this case, I'm afraid.

Frank, my biggest concern on that pedal box is will my feet fit? It would be the easiest and safest way to get pedals (in the correct place) but if my feet are gonna be like my fingers when I type, it wouldn't be much fun to drive. Since you were nice enough to sell me those factory pedals, I really should try them first...

Make your own box then, just get the floor mounted pedals.
You can cut and weld the factory ones to move them over as suggested. As long as the new material is as thick as the original I don't think they will bend. I personally wouldn't try bending them. As long as you bevel and weld all the way through welding should be fine. Overlap them -- left pedal on top of right one. 6" is about as far as I'd try to go, but go no further than you have to, of course. If you're converting to a hydraulic clutch (is there enough room between engine and clutch rod?) there shouldn't be a problem, a linkage clutch with a strong pressure plate might be. With the pedals moved over you could weld an "ear" UP from where the pedal bends down to your foot and mount a clutch MC to the LEFT of the brake MC, with clutch MC under the fender. I think you can visualize what I mean...
