Photoshop launches free online photo editing

I have virtually zero Photoshop skills, so I'm not a good candidate for offering perspective on this. Nevertheless, it looked interesting and relevant.

Online photo enthusiasts can now get their photo fix and fix their photos in one place.

Adobe (NSDQ: ADBE) on Thursday announced the commencement of public beta testing for its free online Adobe Photoshop Express photo editing service and community.

Some of the editing options included in Adobe Photoshop Express include: Crop & Rotate, Auto Correct, Exposure, Red-Eye Removal, Touchup, Saturation, White Balance, Highlight, Fill Light, Sharpen, Soft Focus, Hue, Black & White, Tint, Sketch, and Distort.

Seems funny to me that they would offer an on-line photo service with many of the functions they have introduced in many of their program's they have sold over the years for big bucks and offer it for free. Their software is adequate in my opinion only because I have not gotten the results I was aiming for. This by the way is most likely the result of my not wanting to spend the high cost of their better software.

Thanks Jon

Now ask me if I would try it? My answer is Yes.
Ask me if I am skeptical? My answer is still Yes.

I was notified by ADOBE a couple of weeks ago - with the invitation to join. For me - not gonna happen. I already have Photobucket and Shutterfly to store my photos and Adobe Elements 5.0 to 'fix' them. I've been using Elements since it first came out so am comfortable with my requirements. V 5.0 is the 2007 update, but since it was minimally changed for the 2008 V6.0, opted to only spend $25 for an AMAZON OEM copy rather then $110 for the new. Two of the major differences - different colored border(??) and compatible with VISTA. The fact that when they made it compatible, they introduced some major bugs. The photo organizer that comes with V6 is exactly the same as V5 - and I don't use it either. The difference between OEM and retail versions is that there is no manual. The ADOBE manual is crummy so it was a good deal. There are 2-3 after market publications that are much more comprehensive and user friendly. :D
