elcamino,
double check me on this (CRS!)....

I don't think the Streetfire is set up with a adjustable centrifugal advance

your 268 cam wants roughly 16* base to help build low end TQ on the street and 36*WOT at roughly 2800rpms.....

so do ask if you can order and use a weights and springs kit on that dist

I'm also in the market for a new dist. Which distributors have adjustable weights, adj. vac advance, and easy to tune. I think accel does but not sure? The discription of the streetfire MSD says "welded weight pins" does that mean no adjusty?

An MSD example read the installation instructions.

Fully adjustable and has all you need.
More Ready to Run MSD Distributors.

For the street get an HEI but use a GM module.

The Pertronix brand has a good reputation for their conversions they make for vintage points distributors. I wouldn't be afraid to try their distributors. I see you didn't mention Accel. Which means you recognize quality, or in their case, the lack thereof....

I had an Accel HEI on my car when it still had the computer,
absolutely no problems with it.

hey red,
they do sell advance curve kits for the street fire dist.

i do believe i have my timing set up as that. well maybe 14* initial i cant remember.

Notorious,

ya accel has there good things and there bad things i havent heard many good things about there dist. but i can say they make of heck of a cap and rotor. i have over 8,000 miles on an accel cap and rotor. and i must say its in perfect condition. but the dist i have is one its last leg.

i like the large cap dist with the coil in the cap better then the remote coil. to me it gets rid of clutter ya its bigger but i dont have coil bolted to the fire wall but thats just me.

They produce a lot of heat that cant escape. This is why I like the external coils. Plus they look better than that big bulky HEI.
