Pickup Trucks?
I know you Americans are big on your trucks and they are very useful. I even have a hot rod truck of my own. ....BUT....
Why are all you young guys trying to make these big, overweight, un-aerodynamic bricks go fast? Why not take the same motor that you have in these trucks and drop it into a body that weighs 1/2 as much and go much faster. An example is the guy with the International Scout that he wants to know if it will go 130mph...............................c'monnnnnnnn Get real.................. Just wondering..................................

Cuz there's Nothing like haveing something that can help you move, and blow the doors off everything else! Plus I could put a tarp down in the back of mine and fill it with water, and have a bunch of bikini clad girls in the back, while cruising the streets picking on rice burner!!

First of all-I don't understand the guy with the Scout either. That's just a little too far out of the box for me.However-in the stoplight gran prix, can you think of a better ,more unlikely sleeper? Think of the shame for some poor ricer when a big ol' pickemup out runs him 0-60!
My ol' 79 F150 4x4(slightly worked 400M,C6,33" tires, loud pipes and bright orange paint) used to hold it's own when playing with the "hot" cars of the early 80's.What worked good for towing and off-road also worked well up to about 70MPH.After that, the ol' girl was pretty much out of steam. The trick was to get em off the line, run up to the speed limit, then let off.Embarassed a few 305 Camaros that way, along with a 'stang or two.It helped that most of the guys I did this to were of the "ricer" mentalityof the day(STP decals had to be worth at least 50HP).Had a lot of fun with that truck-thats one of the reasons I'm bringing her back to life. That truck always seemed to be able to do things you wouldn't expect it to be able to do.Even used it to pull start my buddie's semi when it wouldn't crank. Thanks,George

The answer is an ElCamino. The best of both worlds.

what i dont get is why take a chevy 3+3 duly and put it so far to the ground they have to find a alternate route around a speed bump and no trailer hitch and non opening tail gate
never mind these hummers that will never leave the paved road 10 years ago and 150,000 miles ago my 79 f 250 460 4bbl would eat a 5.0 mustang off the line till about 80 while they were making fun of the orange and white colors i was already gone (the cream sickle strikes again) see my photo album then again i might not want to know the answer ?do you know what S T P stands for? "stay together please" sr66

While i've always liked the styling and idea of El Camino/Ranchero type cars, thats just what they are-cars.
I bought a 79 Ranchero GT brand new-every option, black w/silver stripes-351M/C6-supposed to have H.D. suspension.Thing layed on ground with complete SBC in bed.Wouldn't get out of it's own way-no matter what I did to it,wouldn't get over 12MPG.Had it for 6 months and traded it for a F150 4x4p/u. Best move I ever made.No more wanna-be trucks for me. Excuse the rant-still p.o.'d about whole deal-further proof of lying salesman stereotype. Thanks,George

To make a car go fast doesn't take alot of know how, to make a truck run fast takes some skill and alot of power. I would say it is a ego thing, wouldn't it be great to blow the doors off a Viper or Vette with a ratty old truck. That would be a ego booster, plus it isn't a Camaro or Mustang.
