Pinion angle shims

Just wondering everyones thoughts on stacking 2 angle shims vs. getting one bigger one.I would like to get just one bigger shim but dont know where I can get 8 degree shim without the longer wait time to have one made or I might make it myself.I know I should reweld the axle mount the right way but time is limited for now, maybe in future

locked ?

Will the spring tie bolt head be long enough to hold them in place and still locate in the spring mount. One of my trailers does not have spring locating pins and I have had axle shift from hitting some bad pot holes. One time I had a come along holding the axle in place until I could get it unloaded and reset the axle and use a cheater bar to retorque the U bolts.

Check Your Ride Height

I concur with checking your spring center bolt. The head on those bolts are usually to short to accept any degree shims along with the perch mount on your rear end. Not sure how you ended up with an 8 degree requirement, but before you make the leap, check your ride height (level the car) and see what your rear end is actually reading from the pinion. As far as stacking a 3 degree and a 5 degree, I would be very cautious and personally would not do that. If you don't have the time to the job right the first time, where will you find the time to do it over again. Rework is way to costly.

If you just absolutely gotta do that then weld the shims together and weld them to the axle mounts so things are not so likely to shift. Only a temp deal until you get it right..inquiring minds want to know how it wound up so far off..????

Well bought it this way and I have no time maybe to do it the right way, Does anyone know of places for axle tube mounts I have found several but to big I have gm 10 bolt which is 2 3/4" and i need it 2" wide.I have checked and I know what angles ect.... I need ect.... and you , me or anyone can just use a longer grade 8 bolt if needed and my shimms cant shift or move. Its on nothing stock for anyone wondering. Its one of my hotrods.Granted stacking isnt the best, just wondering peoples thoughts.I guess if I could find a 4"x2" axle tube mount for 2 3/4" tube I would fix the right way. But since the car show is the next time I come home and I have a week left to work on its hard to order the parts and get them and install them and road test in that time frame.

Try checking with someone that is into Mud Bog racing or suspension lift kits for trucks.

I once got an 8 degree set from a outfit on E-bay.
