Pinion shaft bearing?

I took my 8.2gm 10 bolt rear end in and had the bearing pushed on, the only thing I did not replace is the bearing on the pinion shaft the connects to the drive line, there doesn't seem to be play in it. But when I drove it I felt a slight vibration at 55mph, and wondered it is that pinion bearing. All the wheel and axle bearings are replaced and tires are balanced.

Hard to say what the problem is. Why did you not replace all the pinion bearings? The vibration could be as simple as the drive line angle is incorrect.

I agree with Vince. Vibration is tough to solve. Pitch angle is important with the driveline. Since you removed the driveline to replace the bearing, did you make sure you didn't lose one of the needle bearings in the U joint cups? I did that by applying grease to the inside of the cup and removed a needle bearing in the process (or it fell out) I got a vibration on the freeway because of that. Replaced the rear U joint and the problem was fixed.

How did you set the preload on the pinion bearings when you put the pinion back in? Did you use a new crush spacer?

You should never replace one pinion bearing without replacing the other one too. Setting the preload on the bearings is very important and new bearings require more preload than used bearings.

Ujoints are all new and drive was installed the same as it was taken out, though now it is a 350 instead of the powerglide, but same cross member was used. How do u know if your at the right pitch angle or not?
