Pinion shaft jammed, 1986 camaro rear end

How do you get a jammed pinion shaft out? It is out of the first gear but cannot get it to advance any further to get it out of the carrier? We are trying to replace a rear axle oil seal. It is in a 1986 camaro rear end

1986 chevy rear end

We have restored a 1953 gmc pickup truck. We used a 1986 engine transmission and rear end. We are trying to replace a rear axle seal. We have to removed the pinion shaft to get the C ring on the axle. The bolt was broken but we got the shaft 1/3 of the way out. Now it is jammed. It is out of the first gear but we cannot get it to advance any further. We are stuck!! Any ideas?

How did you get the shaft to move with the bolt broken off. I've had to cut the pin with a torch and install one from another rear, same deal the retaining bolt broke and we couldn't get the pin out. Good luck

1986 camaro rear end

We tapped it until it almost hit the pinion and it came out of the first gear and now it is stuck. Tried tapping it back in and will not move. The shaft will not move in and will not move out. The bolt broke off and some of it was still in the shaft. Broke off far enough in that it did not get in the way to advance towards removal. We are still stuck. Looks like cutting the pin with a torch is a great idea. Thank you.
