Pinstriping
 

I'm just starting to do some pinstriping on my own. I bought some brushes and paint to practice with. I see in here there is'nt much on pinstriping, one good post is all I could find. I know a lot of guys do this and would like to start seeing more about it. I need all the knowledge I can get. I know I will have questions as I go so if anyone could help along the way I would appreciate it. I'm just looking to do my own on my own stuff. Old school striping is what I like. I've been on some striping sites that have helped a lot but everyone has has there own way of doing things. Like what kind of oil to keep on your brushes, from trans fluid to ball glove oil. I quess it is a personal preference. Any help would be nice, thanks.

I use linseed oil myself and use what ever reducer that you use for your paint to clean brushes. the majic is in your hand eye co-ordination so stripe your toolbox, mailbox, refrigerator, front door and anything else that has a plain surface. Sometimes it is helpful to draw out the design with a soft artist pencil that can be wiped off when you are thru striping..

I know only two guys answered my post and thanks for that, but I would like to ask another question. How do you store your paint once it's been opened? I put a small amout in a plastic container to use from some paint I had. When I open my new 1/2 pint cans it will take quite awhile to use them up so they will be sitting for some time. Should I put them upside down or just put the lid on tight? I don't want them to skim over. I'm sure there some old time stripers that have there way of doing it. Thanks again.

I store mine upside down..and i use the lids from pickle jars or mayo lids to paint out of..you probably throw out a lot of those..

I haven't been working on stripping much, sons been sick and other stuff
going on. I did discover some things though. I like working out of a small drink cup and palleting on the side of it. Tried a peice of paper like most and I think the cup works better, what do you think? A Ice cube try works well for thinner, all the different compartments makes it easy to clean after. I've just started useing two hands for curves, seems to give me more control. Straight lines are still one handed. Any other tips will be appreicated. I'll keep you posted.

i punch a small hole in the lid and use a screw to seal it up. never had the lid off of 1shot . i buy small mixing cups from taps to mix glass resin or other small quantities in. i still use the magazines for a pallet . just use the shiny pages . i use very little reducer if any. if clear coating i use the hardener for the clear and urethane reducer. my biggest problem is i stopped stripping years ago and don't practice enough any more. it's something you need to do daily .

The H.A.M.B. is a good place to check out on pinstriping,once you join you can click on Community and there is a Social Group for pinstripers so you can share info and advice and post pics of your work to share with others.You may want to do a Google search also,here in Phoenix they have had annual workshops where the stripers get together, there may be some in your area too.
