re: Pinstriping

Railer,
Many thanks for the kind word's, it really makes a old man's soul feel good for someone to appreciate their work and take the time to sit down and write them to let them know how they feel.
I don't know your age but I would guess that you are old enough to see and understand the way many things were done in the early years of rodding.
We have rasied a whole generation of young people that have no idea about hotrods and how to work on anything, to use anthing you have on hand or to be creatve and make your own what ever.
Everyone, take the time to teach and show all the next generation anything that you can, make them learn enough to be self relant and not depend on the will of others. This will go a long way to keep rodding a live.

I'll get off the soap box now.
Kenny

re: Pinstriping

Since I did my original post I found another lost piece that I stripped. This piece was the first that I used a air brush on,it was a Passche VL this one could lay a line as fine as a pencil line.
Most of the black lines were done by my son when he was about 10 years old, he wanted to paint so I gave him some brushes and a stripping tool called a flow pencil (looked like a air brush but had a roller in the tip just like a ball point pen and was adjustable for width) and told him to have at it. He didn't do bad but he soon got the idea that it was not for him.
I found this under the corn barn at my father-in-laws place last weekend and it took me most of the week to get it clean because I was afraid the the paint was going to come off ,which a lot of the black did. It surprised me that it survived 30 plus years under that barn.

I know this thread is a bit old, but it was a very interesting read. We just put together a car and raced it in the 24 Hours of LeMons series--which was a ton of fun. While painting the car, we had a little pinstriping done on the hood. I thought it turned out pretty good, and I videotaped the process. It turned out looking a bit like a woman, but the pinstriper said he didn't intend for that when he started. If anyone is interested, you can see it at http://streetmuscleaction.com/lemons/2009/04/.

If it don't move or cost you a lot of money...........stripe it!!! Practice ,practice, practice and...........did I say practice !!
I wish I could still stripe, it was possibly the best stress reliever that I did.
Good Luck !
