pinto rack question

Has anyone taken a pinto rack apart before ? I want to take mine apart and see how it was shortened and to make sure it was done safe, also check for wear. I tried to find a diagram online, but no luck yet. Thanks

I have taken apart MII power racks. Pintos are the same thing. It sounds like you are just wanting to look at the ends of the rack to see if they were shortened properly? If so, just pull off the rubber accordion boots and look. That will give you all the access you need to ***** the condition of the ends. If you need to go deeper, you will need one special part to pull the passenger side seal that is buried in the gear housing. See the tool here.

Thanks for the info. I pulled the boots back and looked at the ends to see how it was shortened. The only thing I can figure is they cut and retreaded the end with no notches. I still want to take it apart and look, clean and polish the alum housing. Do you know if the center outer tube is pressed in? Thanks again.

Yes that tube is permanently attached. Don't try to remove it. No need to really. My buddy polished his aluminum rack and had it clear powder coated. The steel tubes took on a bright, toasty brown color that looks super next to the polished aluminum center.
