Piston ring

Does the inside bevel of the ring always face the top of piston ? Both of these top rings have one dot on them . The box is maked first and second ring. Just cast ring's for street . They say .004 per inch gap. I have.040 oversize pistons does that mean 4.040x.004 for gap. Ford book say's .010-.020 for gap on top ring's. Only ridge at top was the dark mark around cylinder top 1/4 inch. Ok Thank's This job started out to change gasket's LOL

Basic rule of thumb on ring placement is-- inside bevel on top ring is to the top of piston--Inside bevel on second ring to bottom of piston. If the ring has no bevel, its the second ring. If the rings have any other configurations, just follow the guidlines on the box or the packaging the rings came in when installing them. If you do the math on the gap recomendations, you still come within the Ford specs. @.016/.017.

Both dots should be toward top.

I sold a guy an Enginetech kit a couple of weeks ago. He called me and said he couldn't figure out which way was up on the compression rings, couldn't find a dot. I told him the side that said "top" was the top. After a few seconds, he said "Oh, ok."

Maybe they should have put "bottom" on bottom of the ring?

I was out in Beatty, NV last year and went into a conveneience store through a double glass door. A sign on one door said "Please use other door", the other door had a sign saying "This is the other door" !!!!

At least they had a sense of humor! :-)
