Piston Ring New Concepts

I have been reading on piston ring technology. It seems that a lot of people are going to a metric ring set up using 1.5mm rings or even the .043 rings with a 3mm oil ring. Also they are opening the second ring .004 to .007 larger to allow pressures to escape. I am wondering how .043 rings would last for street use. Has anyone here used such a small ring? What do you guys think about the way ring technology is changing?

Ben

I read on this also, and these are NOT meant for performance street cars.

They are mostly new japanese cars and they raise the top ring to promote better combustion for economy/epa, but it lowers ring life.

All after market pistons still use the lower first ring.

As I understood alot of the nascar's have gone to this setup. If the japanese cars can run this style it would make sence that so could a normal street motor.
