Planning a paint job.

Hi guys I'm new to the forums did some searching for painting tips and it led me to this site and I found some very useful info so I figured I'd join and ask a few I'm uncertain about. I'm planning repainting my daily driver now I've got a lot of rust I need to get rid of and have already began getting the body panels and such. The paint in the other areas is good no peeling, bubbling, or cracking, so I plan on just painting over it without out stripping it completely what sort of primer do I need and what prep do I need to do to the old paint before I repaint.

Thanks

I'm not a paint expert, but a friend of mine's brother paints for a living. He suggested that I use epoxy primer because it seals the metal more effectively.

Epoxy primer and sand the whole car down with 320 grit sand paper to prep the old paint.
