tm454,
Have you tried to fix it yourself? Here are some things to check: Is the cup and tip in good shape? Is there water in your air supply? Is the ground cable loose in the clamp? The clamp might be tight on the metal but the wire inside is loose. Is there paint between the ground clamp teeth? I think these things work forever and if it is still coming on and there is any sign of life it is something that you can fix. Good Luck Scholman |

I think scholman has a good point... Are you running your air supply through a good filter and regulator? If not you're trying to use your plasma cutter as a water jet and there just isn't enough pressure for that to work well...

Plasma cutter with problems
Thanks guys, all very good suggestions and a site to boot, couldn't ask for more!!! Service only 28 miles from home!!! And a very good map to the service center! I bought this unit used with no instructions but was shown how to use it then it died a few months later, no apparent reason?? Have been using it as a $700 foot stool.

Does anybody know where you can buy a "guide" for these plasma cutters? We have aquired one last month and when you actually touch the metal you are cutting it kills the tip, beyond repair. I also got this one with no instructions. I have heard you are supposed to cut around a 1/8th inch away from the metal, but most plasmas will deal with it if you touch, not weld the tip solid.... Mine doesn't.
I have heard that you can get a guide type dealy that goes on the end and doesn't allow you to touch the metal. Just thought while we are on the topic I'd ask. Thanks. bonuts |

you can buy tips for the plasma cutter that look like a castled nut (not real sure of the appropriate name) that will be the stand off, if the plasma cutter is arcing i would say it just need new consumables, what kinda air pressure are you running to it?
