hi hope there is some ford guys out there. i'm cleaning out one of my garages and found trans i think is rare. i can not id it. it has an id tag that reads
RUG-FP CDP E3UR BA 0007 and on the tailshaft is rf-d7dr-7ao40-aa 2603665-c h27 l02 with all this info i cant id it. it has a shifter assembly i have never seen befor the shifter it self is snapped in you just push a tab and it unlocks the shifter handle. i think its a rare 64-65 fe big block big car trans not sure please help Thanks |
Are you sure you have the correct numbers wrote down the rug #s dont add up. Cole

What is the input shaft diameter, and how many splines?
The E3.... number is generally a 1983 year designation. |
This is true the E-3 should represent 1983, but from 79-83 the toploader had a aluminum case with single rail shifter. Is the case aluminium? does the shifter push in from the top and have 4 bolts holding it in place? Cole

thanks guys!!
the input shaft is 1 1/16 10 spline output is 28 spline. the id tag is RUG-FP clear as day. i can not find fp anywhere on line. |
Thats a small block trans, but some 390 ran the same trans also. so it still could come from a big block also. I have searched all books and i cant find your numbers anywhere. Cole

im not much of a ford guy(have sevral now) but i think this shifter is for a big body car thats why it sticks out so far the shifter bracket has a part number on it D8TA-7400. but the shifter rod itself pushes in and snap locks in all you have to do is push a small rectangal button to release it. is that normal for ford shifters??
|
D8TA-7400. The D8 designates a 1978 production part.
It makes me think of this being a retro kit for 1978 Mercury Montego, or a full sized type body style. |
ok, its funny you have a trans with a complet id tag and there is no listing for it.
thanks to you all. i cleaned out one of my garage and forgot about this trans it was in the very back covered up with early hemi parts that i forgot about too. :D |
its a RUG plain and simple. thats what i have it listed as in my parts book as well
i will chevk on input splines tomorow as to further narow what it fits i know they did use it in some old ford vans and trucks as well. it is a transmission i dont see around to often. |

In 1965. I was 9 years old, and used my paper route savings to purchase a 1963 Buick LeSabre my mother fell in love with. To make a long story short, I made that used car salesman hand the keys to my mother, who was sitting, very "distraught"(crying is a more accurate word), in the rusted out chevy my parents owned, at the time. |
nice story! love those buicks. did it have the 401 and dynaflow?
i found some info 64-65 used a 25 spline that snapped so they went with a 28 spline in 66. my case is 24" so it must be a fairlane, galaxy,or a murador due to the offset of the shifter for bigger body style, my best guess. Thanks for all the help!!!!!! Randy |
