Unhappy plz help traction problems in 74 montecarlo

Hi, im aaron 20, new to this muscle car thing... just rebuilt my 400 small block and tranny. dont have alot of cash left. have a stock 10 bolt 8.5 2.73 geared 1 tire fire rear end... the 400 is going to give me allot of traction problems, i have approx 235/60/15 rear tires 225/60/15 front mounted on centerline wheels. what is the cheapest thing i can do to improve traction. posi, wider tires? I think the tires i have are the widest that will fit my 15x8 rims. i think they are approx 8.5 inches thick. Car weights 4200 lbs with me in it, thanks any help is appreciated.

I know you can go a lot bigger of a tire on those rims, but that all depends on if it will fit in your wheel well. So for better traction, you could put wider tires with softer compound. Some type of posi would also help. What type of suspension is on the rear of a monte? You can also move any type of weight to the trunk. Weight transfer is one of the big things in traction. Getting the front to lift, and the rear to squat is what you want.
