The point of no return (good thinking or bad idea?)

Today I pulled the vinyl top off of my car.. it wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be but still half of the car pulled off with the top. There was also some bondo under there which i really dont know what to do with (since i am goin to put on a new top) the bondo runs past the vinyl top onto my rear qtr...am i gunna have to grind all of that off? cause i really dont want to have to do all the body filler myself... going off im not to good at it and i dont want to have a huge primer spot on the side of my car...what should i do? what would you guys do? anything helps.
thanks

If the body filler was well done and there is no corrosion going on, go ahead and put the new top over it. Should be fine.

also i was wondering if the top has to be bare metal before you can put on a new vinyl top or what.. i heard of using POR 15 which sounds like a good idea but i am on a high school budget and dont have the 95 bucks for a gallon. Anyway i guess im just asking if it needs to be bare metal or primed and sealed or what.. also is it pretty easy to put a new top on (and make it look good) or is it worth gettin it done professionaly.

A pint would do it but i wouldn't. Nothing sticks to it very well. Cover the bare top like the factory did. Done properly, it is weather tight.

so just bare metal? or over paint because there is paint there now. well thanks a lot.

If it is painted now, over the paint. Point is, no need for special coatings.

hey would you happen to know if a roof off of a '70 lemans is the same as the '71 or '69? because if so i thik that i could get rid of most of my patch panels.. There was a junk yard around here that had either a 69 or 71 and most of my back window frame is rotted out.. hmm...that would be awesome!
well thanks again

Damn. I just used por15 on my roof. I figured it would protect well under the vinyl tha I will be installing as soon as I'm done painting. I didn't give much thought as to how well the adhesive will stick to it. Do you think if I scuff it I'll be ok?

POR offers a primer called Tie-Coat Primer designed to be applied over POR15 when it needs to be painted.

por 15 will adhere to ANY metal IF it is not sanded smooth, use a 36 grit sandpaper to get any scale off it must be top coated if exposed to uv ,sunlight, if covered by vinll top or ynderneath car such as frame it will be OK you can go to por15 website and read directions and applacation ,wash with water use their cleaner wash with water again .DONOT use laquer thinner or similar to clean i just finished my frame turned out great
