I asked a question concerning car starting problems. and kain13 asked if it was points or hei dizzy? ummmm,.. whats the difference? was looking to post this on pre-beginner bulletian board

points are an older type of ign system usually has a small dist cap.. HEI is a electronic system, usuall has a large cap..hei is a much better stystem GL

hei will have the coil mounted on top of the distributor and points wont

It looks like the car in your gallery has an external coil,but it may not be points,you need to remove the cap and look and see if it has any moving parts,like an arm on the points that rides on the dist cam,if nothing inside looks like its touching it is electronic.
