Points System with a new Accel 12 volt universal coil??

i thought i'd treat my old ignition system with a little upgrade, so i got some new points (which it was in need of) and an Accel Super Stock coil but the thing is, it says it's a 12 volt coil, with my points system running only 6-7 volts will it be okay using this coil? or do i need a special coil. Do i have to take out the resistor and run the straight 12 volts???

HEY 61: That vintage points system used a 12 volt coil and a ballast resistor to drop voltage to points to about 7 volts. If you use the newer coil you will still need a ballast resistor as 12 volts direct will burn points quickly.....DAVE
