poly primers

I have done some searching of old posts about poly primers and have found some good info. My question is has anyone used martin senours poly primer 5190 or I believe crossfire 15205? Or is there one someone else recommends? I have read about feather fill but I was wondering how much fill it had compared to others. One post I believe by martinsr said he got 21 mils in 3 coats with one brand. Another said that you could get even more with another. Any thoughts, comments, or opinions are appreciated. BTW this will be on a 63 galaxie conv to take out any old car waves. Have a great day!

I think the MS poly primer is actually made by Evercoat.

I just checked prices per gallon and the MS is $110 and the crossfire is $55. He also said the number had changed to 15206. I wonder what the big difference is that makes the crossfire half price. Does it only work half as good?

I buy Featherfill G2 for a whopping $39 per Gallon! I've used some expensive stuff made by Sikkens ($65perquart $260 Gallon!!!!) that didn't measure up to G2 IMO. Cost cannot determine quality with most Autobody products.

The 5190 is Evercoat and the 15205 is PCL "Polyprime" and actually a very good product. If that has changed with the part number to 15206, I don't know. Unless that 5190 has gone up a LOT in the past few years (like doubled) you are getting hosed on the price.

Thanks for the heads up martinsr. How does the build compare between the 2 products. I called and got the price, so he may have looked up the wrong number.... at least I hope he isnt taking me for a ride. Also, can this poly be used over epoxy? The one data sheet said no over etch primer but did not mention epoxy. My plan was to use poly, block sand, and then 2k urthane so I can wetsand before paint. I thought I read somewhere you could not wetsand poly. Is that true? You guys are great and thanks to all that reply, it is awesome having somewhere to turn to for answers and not somone looking to sell you something!!!!!

Put down two coats of epoxy then your polyprime, polyprimer can be drysanded and wetsanded with no problems.
