pontiac 400 id numbers

I Need To Find Out What Heads Are On My 76 Trans-am? Where Are The Id Numbers Stamped On The Heads,block Etc?

The head number are embossed on the center exhaust ports on Pontiacs and the block code is stamped into the block just below the passenger cylinder head. The year of the engine is embossed on the top of the block right behind the distributor.

If it has the OEM engine you'll have a pair of 6X-8 or 6S heads. They have 101CC chambers and run 2.11in and 1.66ex valves.
