Pontiac - Chevy interchangeble parts

Hi all,
Just starting my first hotrod project ( 48 Pontiac 2dr coupe ) and i'm missing the hood. I have heard that various 47-48 chevy - Pontiac parts will fit eachother. Now i'll be visiting swap meets in the next few weeks to try and find something for winter. I dont have a current hood to go by just pictures which do look the same from just looking at internet pictures.
If anyone knows it would be greatly appreciated.
Very happpy to find this site with so much knowledge it has kept me busy reading over the past few days. Everyone keep up the good work and I'll try the same

I am a little fuzzy on this. I know Buick had big cars and little cars in the 41 to 48 range. Oldsmobile might have as well. Not sure about Pontiac.

The small cars shared a lot of sheet-metal with the Chevy from the firewall back. My 41 Chevy has a NOS Buick trunk lid on it.

The problem I see with the front sheet-metal is that they all had distinctive grills. I've never checked them out closely, but from my casual observation, they all had different sheet-metal configurations to accommodate the grills.

Yeah noticed that with the grills. My main concern is with the hood and from pictures they look to be the same or fairly close. But without an original to by by my comparion options are limited.

hood question

Goat:
I think you missed the implications of Red's response. The hoods may likely appear and indeed be identically shaped, EXCEPT...they are differently shaped at the front where they meet the different grills. That would likely mean that a different grill means a different grill opening which means a different hood. Just take a good look at that comparison between whatcha may find and whatcha need. Hope that helps!

Good luck on your swap meet hunts. Don't want to be a downer, but in 5 years of searching swap meets for 41 parts, I found one hood, two rear fenders, and a front clip without a hood. The trunk lid and rear fenders I was looking for fit 41 - 48 Chevies. Didn't need the front clip. The hood and rear fenders were worse than what I had. I know there are some who will hate this, but I got both rear fenders, the trunk lid, and the hood off ebay. Got the repair panels from Chevs of the 40's. Good luck.

Gotya, I will be taking a closer look. So possibly a grill change may be in order as im not too concered about originality. this will be a hotrod afterall. Some grinding and welding and maybe a custom grill to boot
Thanks guys for the info!

1948 pontiac hood

Hollander shows 1948 pontiac used one hood across all their models- but
it was used only on Pontiacs. Same one used on both 6 and 8 series. Jim
