Thanks! I really enjoyed those pics, and the stories that went with them. I have been into Pontiacs since '57, so I remember a lot of that history, even though I was to far away to see any of it, only read or hear about it. Here's a little Pontiac history from our track, the year it opened (1964).



By the way, thats the starter in front of the cars. We didn't get a tree until late summer 1965.

I got hooked early also. Dad had a '61 Bonneville w/421 4-speed, my future brother in law who lived nearby had a '58 Chieftain w/tri-power and 4-speed. Black on black, an absolutely gorgeous car!

Before I left central FL ca. '95, a friend had just finished a '64 wagon. Looked a little like Beswick's wagon from a ways back.

The first drags I went to at Valkaria (sp.?) FL were flag started, too.

OT- You might have heard that Micky's and his wife's killer was finally caught a while back.

RIP old son.

Cobalt, cool find! I spent about half an hour last night checking it out, right after I told my wife I would be along to bed "in a minute". She was asleep...

I saw a gorgeous 64 GTO last sat at the car show, I had to keep on walking, no one wants me slobbering on their car.

I've been alright, you?

I was more than a bit surprised when a buddy of mine at work went against his Pontiac heritage (he's got a '99 GP that gets pampered worse than my wife--his too probably..) and added a Corvette and an '01 or '02 Camaro to the fold. Why is beyond me. Him and his wife also have an '08 G6, so I suppose it balances, but it's still a shocker. cboy has seen that GP (he blew the engine while messing with the turbo so it's currently sitting), and it looks nasty. I've got to get photos of it....

An older guy with a gold Pontiac wagon used to run at Orlando. Car ran good. Good guy too. We always got matched up when we went to the nostalgia events in Bradenton. Pull all the way across the state and race the guy from home .

That brings back memories of our first local drag strip/sugar beet loading road. A bunch of sugar beet farmers got together and build a road just over a 1/4 mile long back in the early seventies in Southern Manitoba...They only used it about 2 weeks of the year in fall when they brought in their sugar beets to take to market...a few of us got together and asked if we could use it, they agreed but said that we had to clean it up before and after. Not a bad trade, we raced almost every day until we had what we thought was a major meet planned on a Sunday complete with a PA system for announcing all the match ups.

We weren't there for more than an hour when the local detachment of the RCMP showed up complete with their interceptor 440 MOPAR...Everybody was quiet for a while until one of the officers asked who was in charge and what would it take for him to run the cruiser, everybody lightened up and had a great day...they where concerned about safety but happy to see all of us street racers off the highway.

Thought I'd share...still miss those days.
