im thinking about using the 1.65:1 rockers on these heads,
i have not nailed down my valvetrain yet,
does anyone know if the pushrod holes need to be worked over for the 1.65's ?

You will have to verify your clearance and adjust as necessary.

I personally have not installed long ratio on a pontiac head but have on big and small Chevys. I have had to modify/clearance all of the guide plates on those engines.

Typically the higher ratio is achieved by shortening the distance from the pushrod seat of the rocker arm to the trunnion. This usually results in the push rod touching or binding against the guide plate or cyl head.

I have not choosen a cam yet.
the engine these heads are on, is a 354.
I don't know much about the engine, except that it has about 5 hours of run time, sounds healthy, and assembly lube all over the top end.

my plan is to pull the engine, pull pan and heads and see what im working with.
I was just curious, because while the heads are off, this is the perfect time to address this.
I have the 1.5's and the 1.65's. start small and work from there.

so before I choose a cam, I need to see what I have underneath.
if its a poorly built, cast piston job... the short block will be replaced with a long rodded 400-ish.
also need to test the valve springs. just to know the pressure.

the application is in a 1930 oldsmobile 5 window coupe. 2200#
behind the poncho is a ST-10, a 8.2 outback w/ auburn posi, and 4.10's
some street time, most strip time...
ive got the bug, and I need to get it going!

If you haven't chosen a cam yet why bother with high ratio rockers...just get the cam ground the way you want it.

Waste of time if you ask me, it can all be in the cam not the rocker.

Why create work?

most likely ill be buying an off the shelf cam from summit.
may even change the cam a couple of times for the sake of learning.
I don't see it as a waste of time, I see it as learning.
im no major engine building guru.
im a hands on learner.
I don't learn so well from a text book, online forum, or other... I need personal experiences.

the only failure in life is the lesson you fail to learn the 5th time!

Eddy heads

Interesting subject, just bought the same Eddy heads for a 400 from a 78 Trans Am I am getting ready to build, so will be watching and learning as you go.
Some think they can be a smart *** to people but no one knows it "all", if they think they do that says it all. Always open to learning more, more tricks out there. Keep at it.
