Its quite recommended to have BBC 7/16 studs installed for polylocks.
3/8 bottleneck studs are not the best way to go .

You can use the BBC rocker arm balls too if you are using stock Pontiac rockers.

Pontiac rockers already HAVE a 7/16" "ball". BBC rocker parts do NOT "fit".

Agreed, use 7/16 studs. "Replacement" studs for BBC are the correct length.

For some reason they have always worked great for me. A set from Pioneer cost about $10 for a BBC. Maybe you're doing it wrong.

Guys are spot-on, the bottleneck studs gotta go. The Pontiac pivot balls are already 7/16", all the 7/16" stud does is eliminate the top 3/8" 'neck' part so the entire stud is 7/16", not just the 'bottle' part of the bottleneck stud.

ARP studs p/n 190-4003 w/hex nuts, p/n 190-4203 w/12-point nuts.

Probably a non-issue, but just the same- if you are using 1.65 ratio rockers, be sure to open the push rod holes in the heads as needed.

I've personally never compared the radii of the two pivot balls (Pontiac and BBC) to know if they're different of not. Always used Pontiac balls and rockers, as they come as a set.

Okay, you "got"me. I've never actually tried to use a BBC rocker ball in a Pontiac rocker... The Pioneer part numbers are different, BTW, for Pontiac (RM-378, w/o "Ram Air", RM-384 "with") and BBC (RM-359). No, not "doing it wrong". Doing it "right" is replacing the entire rocker. If there's a problem with the "ball", the rocker isn't "far behind".

Kinda "moot" today, as only the restoration crowd sticks with stock rockers anymore, not unlike the Chevy and Ford crowds. "Good" rockers are readily available and similar in price to QUALITY small block stuff (cheezy imports don't "count"). Contrary to "popular belief", it isn't expensive to build a nice "street" Pontiac.

PAX

Jim
