popping noise

my 68' chevy truck got a 350 ci. 4 months ago and it did this pop kind of sound. the engine was warmed up and i was accelerating somewhat spiritedly and it hiccupped.what could be the cause of this fuel starvation or too much fuel? it only did it during hard accelleration. any insight will be helpful. thanks.

if it was a back fire out the carb then that is a sign of a lean mixture and/or retarded ignition timing.

a bad or week accelerator pump and low ignition timing are the most common causes for a carb back fire.

I'd guess weak valve springs. Could be other things, but that's my guess. The guys down here that used to run in the bomber-class were famous for engine-backfire whenever they over-rev. They had to run stock engines, and most of them just kept a bunch of un-rebuilt engines on the side, to save money.
