Post Port-O-Sonic For An FE?

I've been told that an Offy Port-O-Sonic intake manifold is good for 4000 to 6000 rpm power on an FE. Any thoughts? Next Question anyone seen one? And lastly anyone got one?

It is,however one of the nice things about an FE is that it generates good torque(which is what moves a vehicle)at a reasonable rpm. Unless you plan on racing the thing I'd stay with a good dual plane intake.

Oh so true Woodz428, I trashed out my 3.91:1 Locker and got a more highway friendly 3.00:1 gear and can still pull high 8's low 9's in an 1/8th. Ain't tourqe grand! About 4100rpm's is peak power on my 390. I'd like to bump it up to about 5000r's and see what happens. I've got a ways to go before I worry about that though. I was mainly doing a little fact checking on what I had been told about the Offenhauser intake. Have you ever seen one for an FE? A buddy of mine in Boise, Id. has got a 67'427 Fairlane running 9sec. 1/4 mi times, he said he had one in the early 70's.

Yes I have seen them and I think they are still available, I'll check through some of my catalogues and also Hemmings. Belmonts, a regular advertiser, occasionally has port-o-sonics. That is actually just the name for what is basically a Torker type intake.

I have seen the Port O Sonics on E-bay occasionally. I picked up an unused Dual Port Offenhauser manifold a cpl of yrs ago off e-bay, dated 1983. It came in the original box with all the paperwork.

It had a chart in it, and about the Port O Sonic, it says its for either,
1. A 3/4 to full race cam with a 7000 max rpm. With a 600 cfm carb its powerband rpm range is 5000-7000 rpm, and with a 7000 cfm carb its pb rpm range is 6000-7500.
or
2. A Strip-Race cam from 7000 to 8000 rpm. With an 850 cfm carb its pb rpm range is 6000-8000 rpm's.
Not sure if that helps...
