ported 305 heads on a stock L31 350?

i putting a 85' silverado 4x4 together "clean inside and out straight all the way around all org truck had a 305/ 700r4 3.08 gears, now iv got a stock L31 motor no heads, but iv got a desint set of ported to the gills 305 heads, how hogh will that run the compression up, i want to run 87 octane, im even thinking about useing the factory cam "roller' or a eddy's performer cam not sure yet, a weiand seath high rise, and a good holley or eddy carb...any ideas??

what casting heads? There's very few 305 castings worth a snot, ported to the gills is hyperbole, I assume. If not, just toss em.

the last three #450 1.84/1.50 valves, i had to use 1 3/4 headers just to get the exhaust ports to seal off, the intakes have been port matched to the 1205 felpro gaskets.

Not the worst head casting but I would be hesitant running them because they sound like they've really been hogged out. I know f-bird 88 on here suggests opening them up significantly to make power for a 350 but this sounds excessive. Maybe he'll chime in. Any pics of them?

The Vortec heads original to the L31 would be my choice for performance. But using low octane gas might not be an option unless the compression ratio was lower than you will get using FT pistons and a good quench. If the pistons are dished you might get away w/it if the cam is chosen carefully.

Like Cobalt said, a good set of vortec castings would be my choice. Even in a truck a 64cc swirlport like 193 can be had for cheap and not have any issues with compression and quench. They'll run out of steam by 4500 rpms, but it's going in a truck right?
