Give it a try on manifold vacuum (the port with vacuum at idle) and see what happens. It can't hurt anything to try and it's cheap. Might get out the old timing light and see just how much advance is added by the vacuum can. Some add so much it makes the car miss at steady speeds. I had one that added about 25*, and it missed at cruising speeds. I went to one that matched the stock ('72 350) 15* can, and it worked great.
