Because depending on the tuner and the idle requirements of the car, sometimes the throttles are open enough to send a tiny signal to the ported hole. I'm not saying its right, but to
properly set base timing, the vacuum should be disconnected regardless of the vacuum source.
But on anything I do (street torque stuff mostly) the ported source is safely covered and showing 0-.5"
