Was that one with NiCad batteries? Just before I sold my shop one of the guys there had a Milwaukee impact wrench and he would recharge his batteries at the end of every day regardless of whether they were completely run down or not. These were the NiCad batteries and as you said he was going through them quite fast but the problem was the recharging, a NiCad needs to be completely (or nearly so) discharged before recharging because of the memory effect. If someone tries to keep a battery (NiCad) topped off by recharging after use whether the battery is down or not then short battery life will result, not saying this is what happened to yours but this is a common problem with NiCads.
